👁 HOW FLAGS ARE COMBINED
is part of project by Copenhagen-based studio Ferdio (Twitter). This diagram arranges common flag colors, layouts, and symbols using a y-matrix. It is a great example of how perspective can help pack more information on the 2-D plane. I especially like how the chamfered corner and beveled edges provide a place for category labels. They also make the shape feel more friendly. Further, this diagram is a terrific example of information that needs no explanatory text; it is evident from its form what is going on. See 22 other ways of looking at the flags of the world at the Ferdio original project, FLAG STORIES.
🛠 INFO WE TRUST
Last week's virtual book club on Info We Trust (Amazon) was so great. I got to hear all about people's favorite parts of the book and how it changed their way of seeing data storytelling. Enjoy the vibrant dialog by reading its colorful live discussion, which includes a detailed Q&A with me.
