To hype my INFO WE TRUST Kickstarter I’ve stepped up this newsletter’s cadence.
Thanks to your incredible support, my Info We Trust Kickstarter has surpassed its funding goal. The joy and passion for data graphics embodied in my book will soon be printed, stitched, bound, and shipped to readers all over the world. Thank you for making this journey possible.
There is only one week left to participate in the campaign. Go get your book today. We are almost out of time.
Tomorrow, Friday June 7th, I will host a Reddit AMA for the dataIsBeautiful subreddit, a community with over 21m members. (!)
AMAs, or "Ask Me Anything" interviews, are among Reddit's most popular features. During an AMA, users can ask questions to interviewees. Our advertised agenda includes:
making charts for high-stakes situations (e.g. Covid charts for White House)
building a large collection of historic information graphics, my "designer's library"
making beautiful books about data graphics
The AMA starts at 8am Pacific (11am EST, 4pm London). See details:
I would write longer, but all of my energy is being pumped into polishing Info We Trust before it goes to copyediting. Here is a mostly-finished spread with two new illustrations, just finished last night. (I’m quite fond of that peacock!)
At first glance, it might seem logical that we would pull this off—but a moment of reflection reveals the true improbability of any book coming to be. According to information theory, creating something meaningful is a triumph over entropy. A book is the product of countless irrational choices, serendipitous moments, and chance encounters. Through it all, its spirit emerges—a pure expression of information, defying the chaos of the universe.
Today, the seabirds are flying a little higher, the wind is whipping a little stronger, and I am smiling even wider.
Thank you for making this journey possible.
